Donmac e-Mobility Zambia, says it has secured a €268,500 grant to establish 42 electric vehicle (EV) charging hubs across Zambia’s major transport corridors.
It is claimed that the project would be matched by an equal contribution from the company, bringing the total investment to €537,000.
The grant has reportedly been provided by Self Help Africa under the European Union-funded GreenTech4CE Project, which is coordinated by the organisation.
According to a statement issued on Monday, the planned network will comprise 24 charging hubs along major national transport routes, nine in Lusaka and another nine along the Lobito Corridor, linking the Copperbelt and North-Western provinces towards Angola.

It said that the national corridor installations would cover routes connecting Lusaka to Livingstone, Chipata, Nakonde, Mongu and Chirundu, among other destinations.
Each charging hub, it is said, will have a capacity ranging from 120 kilowatts (kW) to 320kW, allowing private motorists and commercial transport operators to recharge their electric vehicles more efficiently.
Donmac’s Kabayo Muhau said the project would address inadequate charging infrastructure, which remained one of the major barriers to electric vehicle adoption in Zambia.
Muhau added that Government’s position on procuring electric vehicles had made the development of a reliable nationwide charging network increasingly important.
