Zambia’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has urged national carrier Zambia Airways to consider introducing flights to Kasama in Northern Province as part of efforts to improve domestic air connectivity and support economic development.
CAA Director General Captain, Derrick Luembe, said Zambia Airways, as the national carrier, had a broader responsibility to contribute to national development through improved connectivity while maintaining high standards of aviation safety and security.
Luembe made the call in Lusaka on Wednesday when newly appointed Zambia Airways Chief Executive Officer, Aman Wole Gurmu paid a courtesy call on him.
“Certain routes where Government sees it as a necessity, if you come to us, we can try to find ways in which Government supports that route. That is the way to develop,” Luembe said.

He said the Authority would follow up on pending regulatory matters and continue working with Zambia Airways to facilitate its growth while ensuring compliance with applicable aviation requirements.
Gurmu said the airline’s strategy was to expand its network both domestically and regionally, including plans to introduce flights to Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“Our strategy is to expand our routes, regionally as well as domestically,” he said.
Gurmu said the airline was also pursuing certification to expand its cargo operations.
