Access Bank Zambia Limited has announced a leadership transition following the resignation of Country Managing Director, Lishala C. Situmbeko, for personal reasons, effective 30 September 2025.
In a statement issued in Lusaka by Kalumbu Nyikosa-Kearns, Head of Corporate Communications and Brand Management, the Board of Directors confirmed that, following consultations and regulatory approval from the Bank of Zambia, Deputy Managing Director Dr. Iheanyi Nwogu has been appointed Acting Managing Director, effective immediately.
He will serve in this role until a substantive Managing Director is appointed.
During Situmbeko’s four-year tenure, Access Bank Zambia achieved several key milestones, including the successful execution and integration of two mergers, positioning the Bank as the fifth largest and fourth most profitable in the country, the statement read.
It added that his leadership strengthened corporate governance, enhanced risk management, improved customer experience, and reinforced the Bank’s commitment to sustainable growth and community development.
Board Chairperson, Anne Sampa, said, “On behalf of the Board, I extend our profound gratitude to Lishala for his exemplary leadership and immense contribution to the Bank’s growth and transformation. We wish him every success in his future pursuits.”
Nwogu, who has over 22 years of banking experience, including 18 years with Access Bank PLC Group, joined Access Bank Zambia in May 2023 as Deputy Managing Director overseeing Wholesale Banking and Operations.
He has been instrumental in shaping the Bank’s strategic direction and operational excellence.
Sampa added, “The Board has full confidence in Iheanyi’s ability to provide steady leadership and deliver to stakeholders during this interim period.
His operational knowledge, client-centric approach, and understanding of the financial services landscape ensure a seamless transition while maintaining the Bank’s strategic momentum.”
Commenting on his appointment, Nwogu said, “I am honoured to assume the role of Acting Managing Director in this important market for Access Bank. I remain committed to ensuring stability and continuity for our staff, clients, and shareholders, while upholding our robust risk culture and delivering exceptional service.”
Situmbeko reflected on his tenure on his official LinkedIn page, saying: “It has been an incredible journey — steering through two successful mergers, driving transformation, strengthening governance, and building a franchise now among Zambia’s top five banks.
“For now, I’ll be taking some time to rest, reconnect with family and friends, and reflect before determining my next steps. I remain very grateful for the experiences, friendships, and shared purpose that made this journey truly meaningful,” he said.
