Arsenal crash out, as PSG reach Champions League final

Paris Saint-Germain weathered an early Arsenal storm before goals from Fabián Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi secured a 2-1 victory in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final, sending the French champions through to the final with a 3-1 aggregate win.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, Arsenal started strongly at the Parc des Princes, with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma making crucial early saves.

But the Gunners failed to convert their dominance into goals, and they were punished in the 27th minute when Ruiz fired in a stunning left-footed strike past David Raya to double PSG’s aggregate lead.

In a match reported by The Independent on Wednesday, Raya kept Arsenal’s hopes alive by saving Vitinha’s poorly-taken penalty in the 69th minute—awarded controversially for a handball—but Hakimi extended PSG’s lead just minutes later with a precise finish that left Raya no chance.

Bukayo Saka pulled one back in the 76th minute and later missed a golden opportunity to level the tie on the night, blazing over from close range.

Arsenal’s hopes of reaching their first Champions League final since 2006 were dashed, while PSG will now face Inter Milan in the final in Munich on May 31.
