Award-winning artist, Youssou, to grace 2023 Francophonie Week

Legendary Senegalese musician, songwriter, composer and Grammy winning artist Youssou N’Dour expected to perform in Zambia next month.

The artist, who is described by Rolling Stones Magazine as “perhaps the most famous singer alive in Senegal and much of Africa”, will be in the country for the first time to perform alongside many local artists.

Local artists will include Mumba Yachi, Moses Sakala, Angela Nyirenda, El Mukuka, and Kreative Nativez.

The concert according to organisers , Youssou will be hosted by Alliance Française and Total Energies exactly a year after a successful concert featuring world-renowned Cameroon-born American musician, Grammy-Award winning artist.

Others include multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Richard Bona, where over 1,100 people attended the concert with a million viewers reached on social media.

” This event is part of the Francophonie annual commemoration observed in March, celebrating the international use of the French language by nearly 300 million people.

“The celebration dates back to the late 1980s,” Alliance Française Lusaka director  Naïl Munigilia said in a statement on Friday.

Munigilia said the concert was expected to take place at Ciêla Resort, Bonanza, on Saturday, March 25, 2023.
