Chililabombwe Municipal Council says it has seized and destroyed assorted expired alcoholic beverages and food products during routine food safety inspections aimed at protecting public health.

The confiscated products included 85 packs of Nyama Soya Tasty Chicken, 96 cans of Sting Energy Drink (330ml), 20 cans of Flying Fish (500ml), three bottles of Yes Pineapple Drink (500ml), three bottles of Wild Cat Energy Drink (500ml) and four 20-litre containers of opaque beer.

In a statement issued on Friday, Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Nambela Kyombela said the exercise formed part of the local authority’s ongoing efforts to ensure that food and beverages sold to the public are safe for consumption.

“The expired food items were removed from various business premises because they were unfit for human consumption,” Kyombela said.

She said the council remained committed to safeguarding the health and safety of residents through regular inspections and strict enforcement of food safety standards.

Kyombela urged members of the public to report shops and other businesses selling expired or unsafe food products to the local authority.

She also reminded business owners to comply with the Food Safety Act of 2019, which prohibits the sale of expired or unsafe food products.

Kyombela warned that businesses found violating the law would face the appropriate enforcement action.
