The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, as the date for the Mbala mayoral election, Lumezi and Mandevu parliamentary by-elections and by-elections in 11 wards across the country.
ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro said the polls would take place from 0600 hours to 1800 hours on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026.
In a statement, Kasaro said nominations for the by-elections would be conducted on Thursday, Oct. 8, while the campaign period would run from Saturday, Oct. 10, to 1800 hours on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
The Commission will also conduct elections on the same day in Lungwishi Ward in Mansa, Makaba and Nkonge wards in Chipili, Nachikufu Ward in Mpika, Lubaleshi Ward in Kanchibiya, Maako Ward in Kasempa, Siluwe and Upangoma wards in Kalabo, Mbeta Ward in Sioma, Mulimambango Ward in Sesheke and Simanvwa Ward in Choma.
“Notice is hereby given to the general public that the Electoral Commission of Zambia has prescribed Thursday, 5th November 2026, as the date for the holding of the Mbala Mayoral Election in Mbala District of Northern Province,” he said.
Kasaro said the by-elections in Mbala, Lumezi and the 11 wards had arisen as a result of the deaths of nominated and elected candidates, uncontested elections during the recently concluded general election and the nullification of nominations by the Local Government Elections Tribunal.

He said the Mandevu parliamentary by-election had been necessitated by a vacancy that had continued to subsist following the dissolution of Parliament and the inconclusive election held on Aug. 13, 2026.
“The Commission has set non-refundable nomination fees for candidates, with National Assembly and Mayoral candidates paying K17,000 for males, K14,000 for females, K10,500 for youth and K10,000 for persons with disabilities,” Kasaro said.
He said only five senior officials of any participating political party or candidate with ECZ accreditation would be allowed to accompany aspiring candidates into the Nomination Centre during the filing of nominations.
Kasaro said the rest of the supporters should remain outside the 400-metre perimeter from the Nomination Centre in accordance with the law, with no more than two representatives per party or candidate allowed to witness the counting of votes at polling stations.
“The Commission will issue further guidance to candidates in the affected districts, constituencies and wards regarding the nomination process, and advised those seeking clarification to contact the Corporate Affairs Department or District Electoral Officers,” he said.
