ERB lowers fuel prices, as kwacha appreciates; Petrol to sell for K31.36 per litre, diesel, K25.12

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has announced a reduction in the pump prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene, and Jet A-1, attributing the adjustment to the recent appreciation of the kwacha against the United States dollar.

According to the latest pricing structure, petrol will now retail at K31.36 per litre, down from K32.14.
Diesel has been reduced from K27.38 to K25.12 per litre, while kerosene will sell at K24.79, a drop from K26.88.

The price of Jet A-1 has also been revised downward to K27.08 from the previous K29.44.

The local currency appreciated by 4.44 percent in May 2025, strengthening from K28.13 to K26.88 against the US dollar — a key factor influencing the price adjustments.

In a statement issued by ERB Board Chairperson, James Banda, the Board confirmed the new prices would take effect at midnight on May 31, 2025.

“Based on the foregoing, the ERB Board has revised the pump prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene, and Jet A-1 downwards for the month of June 2025. The new prices shall remain in effect until further notice,” Banda stated.

The ERB added that the wholesale and pump price build-up for June 2025 reflects the prevailing market conditions and the strengthened performance of the kwacha.
