Former Katuba Member of Parliament, Jonas Shakafuswa, has said the Patriotic Front (PF) would have to do a lot of work to return to power in the 2026 general elections.
In an exclusive interview with Zambia Monitor journalist in Chipata on Thursday, Shakafuswa said that PF would need a major overhaul to be considered worthy.
“PF needs to work extra hard in order for the former governing party to retain power,” he said.
Shakafuswa, the former Finance Deputy Minister, said the low living standards might cost United Party for National Development (UPND) the support of independent people who supported them in numbers in the last elections.
He also said government pronouncements of free education should be accompanied by commitment to quality education.
Shakafuswa also said Zambia was poverty-ridden hence the need to have leaders who would alleviate the suffering of the many Zambians.
He said that a growth rate of less than five percent cannot impact real change in the country’s wealth.
“So poverty alleviation will still be a pipeline dream,” Shakafuswa said.
