Chama North Member of Parliament Yotam Mtayachalo  has encouraged President Hakainde Hichilema to continue meeting traditional leaders and other stakeholders because there are social partners in national development.

Mtayachalo who recently asked government to provide relief food in the area said the decision made by President Hichilema to meet senior chief Kambombo in Lusaka on Saturday to discuss the hunger challenges was commendable.

“I want to encourage the President to continue meeting traditional leaders and other stakeholders because there are social partners in national development,” the law maker said.

He said in a statement on Sunday that the  government’s resolve to work on the Chama-Lundazi and Chama-Matumbo roads and completion of the Kamphemba and Luangwa bridges was breath-taking.

“The completion of the tarring of the Chama-Matumbo and Chama-Lundazi roads will undoubtedly spur a lot of economic development not only in chama district but the entire Eastern Province but also neighbouring countries such as Malawi and Mozambique,”  Mtayachalo said.

He said using Chanida border was a more  commercially viable trade route due to its proximity to the Port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.

“Further I’m also delighted that the President has directed the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) and the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to quickly deliver relief food to Chama district to prevent people from starvation due to severe hunger being experienced in the district arising from floods, droughts and man-animal conflicts during the 2021/2022 farming season,” Mtayachalo said.
