The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced the sudden death of former Zambia Under-20 Women’s National Team and ZESCO Ndola Girls player, Theresa Musatila.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, FAZ president Keith Mweemba said Musatila’s passing was particularly devastating as she was among three promising young players sponsored by FAZ and Cosafa to train in Spain under a La Liga one-year development programme.
Musatila, along with Esther Musialela and Jessy Zulu, were selected for the 2023 La Liga scholarship following standout performances at the 2022 Under-17 Region VI tournament in Malawi.

“We are saddened to learn of the death of Theresa Musatila who was one of the talents nurtured within our structures at FAZ. She had grown from representing the Under-17 and Under-20 national teams and was looking like a Copper Queens prospect. It is sad to lose such a young and promising star,” Mweemba said.
The Association extended its condolences to Musatila’s family, Zesco United Ndola Girls and the wider football community.
“The ZESCO Ndola Girls left winger, who was recovering from injury, reportedly died after a short illness in Kitwe,” Mweemba said.
