Two police officers, including a community crime prevention officer, and a Chinese national were reportedly injured after a firearm accidentally discharged while being deposited for safekeeping at Kansenshi Police Post in Ndola.

According to Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Pathias Siandenge, the incident reportedly occurred when officers returned to the post with a suspect following recoveries linked to the theft of a water pump belonging to AVIC International.

Siandenge stated that the officer in charge handed the firearm to Constable Alidah Mbewe to secure it in the safe, but the weapon was accidentally triggered, discharging a round.

The scene was processed by a crime scene officer who observed a trail of blood and spent cartridges on the floor.

The firearm has since been recovered and kept as an exhibit.

“The condition of the four injured individuals is currently stable, and they are able to communicate,” said Siandenge.
