Hichilema sacks Mumba, Perm Sec in charge of Energy, amid reports of fuel scarcity in parts of Zambia

Amid the intermittent fuel supply challenges in selected towns of Copperbelt and North-Western provinces, President Hakainde Hichilema has terminated the contract of Energy Permanent Secretary, Peter Mumba with immediate effect.

President Hichilema disclosed in a statement issued by State House Chief Communication Specialist, Clayson Hamasaka, on Friday evening that pursuant to Article 270 of Constitution of the Republic of Zambia, the President has terminated the contract of the Energy Permanent Secretary.

“The President Hichilema has pursuant to Article 270 of the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia terminated the appointment of Mr Peter Mumba as Permanent -Technical Services in the Ministry of Energy,” Hamasaka said.

The President according to Hamasaka thanked Mumba for his service to the government and wished him the best in his future endeavours.

Parts of the country is currently facing intermittent fuel supply crisis following the recent drop in fuel pump prices.

In Kitwe and Solwezi respectively, some filling stations seen by Zambia Monitor appeared dry with queues of vehicles formed whenever motorists spotted fuel.
