How patient reportedly died in the hands of a native doctor —Police

A 34-year-old traditional healer of Kawambwa  has been detained  for allegedly causing the death of a 50-year-old man.

According to Luapula police, the deceased  went to seek treatment for Asthma.

Luapula  police chief  Gloria Mulele said in a statement on Thursday that Sylvester Kabuswe,the victim was diagnosed with asthma in 2019 and died at the house of a traditional healer where he was taken by his wife.

Mulele said  Kabuswe of Messager Township complained of having difficulties in breathing and he was rushed to a traditional healer for treatment.

It has been reported  that when they reached the residences of the traditional healer identified as Rude Chama who is also the cousin to the deceased, she tattooed Kabuswe on his chest and back.

After being tattooed, the traditional healer applied some powder on  Kabuswe and a few minutes he became weak and told his wife that the medicine was too strong before he died.

Police officers who rushed to the scene found a pot of medicine and the medicine which was used was recovered.

Mulele said the body of the deceased was lying in Kawambwa district hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

The traditional healer remains in police custody until the cause of the death is ascertained.
