King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, calls for new development phase, greater regional equity in Throne Day speech

On Wednesday 29 July 2026, the King of Morocco Mohammed VI addressed a Speech to the nation on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the King’s accession to the throne.

In His speech, His Majesty outlined a vision for Morocco’s next phase of development, highlighting the country’s economic resilience, industrial expansion, and growing international influence while calling for stronger regional development, expanded financing for businesses, and continued structural reforms. The speech also focused on preserving Morocco’s political and institutional stability while translating economic growth into broader improvements in living standards and territorial equity.

The King described Morocco’s security, institutional stability, and governance model as the country’s greatest strategic assets, saying they have enabled the Kingdom to navigate an increasingly volatile regional and international environment while continuing to attract investment and implement long-term reforms.

Turning to the economy, the King Mohammed VI said Morocco maintained strong momentum despite global uncertainty, noting that economic growth reached approximately 4.9% in 2025 and is expected to remain at or above that level in 2026.
He also pointed to favorable rainfall and a successful agricultural season, saying they had strengthened both food production and water security after years marked by drought.

The King emphasized to Morocco’s continued transformation into a regional industrial and investment hub, citing the automotive, aerospace, renewable energy, and food-processing industries as key pillars of the national economy. He said Morocco has become Africa’s leading automobile exporter, with annual production capacity approaching one million vehicles, while automotive and aerospace exports now account for more than 40% of the country’s total exports, surpassing phosphate exports.

His Majesty also noted the launch of new aerospace manufacturing facilities earlier this year, saying the projects have positioned Morocco among a select group of countries capable of producing aircraft engines and landing gear. He added that the emergence of an integrated electric battery industry reflects Morocco’s ability to adapt to evolving technologies and strategic supply chains.

Energy security also featured prominently in the address, with King Mohammed VI describing renewable energy as a central pillar of Morocco’s future economic model. He highlighted the launch of the “Morocco Offer” initiative for green hydrogen, under which the first major investment projects have already been licensed.

Addressing industrial policy, the King said Morocco continues to prioritize national sovereignty and strategic self-sufficiency amid growing global protectionism and disruptions to international supply chains. He noted that domestic food and pharmaceutical industries now meet around 80% of national demand and said Morocco is also developing industrial and technological capabilities in defense manufacturing and cybersecurity to strengthen strategic autonomy while creating new economic opportunities.

The King also highlighted record growth in tourism, saying Morocco welcomed nearly 20 million visitors in 2025, including members of the Moroccan diaspora, marking the strongest performance in the sector’s history.
While emphasizing economic achievements, King Mohammed VI stressed that development must benefit all Moroccans equally. He called for the effective implementation of integrated local development programs across every region of the Kingdom, saying improving living conditions and promoting social and territorial justice remain national priorities.

To sustain long-term growth, the King urged Morocco’s financial sector to expand financing for small and medium-sized enterprises, innovation, manufacturing, and exports while mobilizing greater domestic savings and strengthening financial markets to support major investment projects.

On foreign policy, King Mohammed VI said Morocco has strengthened its position as a trusted and influential international partner through a strategy based on diversified partnerships, balanced cooperation, and constructive engagement with countries around the world. He said this approach has enhanced Morocco’s international standing and enabled it to play an increasingly important role in bilateral and global affairs.

Looking ahead, the King said the legislative elections scheduled later this year and the formation of a new government would mark the beginning of a new phase in Morocco’s development. He said the next stage would focus on consolidating previous achievements while accelerating major reforms and strategic projects.

Concluding his address, King Mohammed VI paid tribute to the Royal Armed Forces, Royal Gendarmerie, National Security, Auxiliary Forces, Civil Protection services, and local authorities for their role in safeguarding the country’s unity, security, and stability. He also honored the memory of the late Kings Mohammed V and Hassan II.
