Kitwe youth behind mathematics solution says K2 million needed to execute project

Gabriel Kasonde, a youth behind the invention of a mathematics solution application called Elicate says he may need about K2 million to roll out his creation.

The Kitwe youth came up with the voice-driven application to solve any maths question or problem from grade one to 12.

He urged, during the Trade Fair in Ndola on Sunday, that the Ministry of Education should adopt and roll out the application across all schools to solve the challenge of high failure rate in mathematics.

“I came up with this app around 2019 and what propelled me were the difficulties I encountered during the time I was re-writing mathematics in the rural town of Lufwanyama and thought of coming up with an application,” Kasonde said.

He said the application has the ability to solve a mathematical question which if rolled out will improve the pass rate for school-going children, especially at grade 12 and nine.

Kasonde, told acting Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, Felix Mutati, that currently he uses a desktop at home as the server.

He said a full roll out would require investing about K2 million to establish servers that accommodate millions of users.

Kasonde wants the government to support local solutions to achieve a smart Zambia at low cost.

He said the journey to his invention had been very rough but that his determination to achieve his results would pay off someday.
