Namwala Member of Parliament, Herbert Moono Mapani, has urged opposition Patriotic Front (PF) members to stop complaining against the Mongu High Court verdict in the murder case that saw United Party for National Development (UPND) supporter Lawrence Banda die.

The case had former PF Deputy Secretary General, Mumbi Phiri, and former president Edgar Lungu’s Barber, Shebby Chilekwa as accused persons over Lawrence Banda’s death during the October 2019 Kaoma Council Chairperson by-elections.

Mapani who is also a Human Rights Advocate said instead of complaining, stakeholders should start commending the UPND administration for allowing the judicial system in the country to operate independently.

He said the case involving the two PF members was dispensed according to the Constitution of Zambia; a situation he said was rare during the previous regime.

“The UPND administration is governing the country according to the constitution as opposed to the way the previous regime used to govern the country by using state institutions to torment their opponents,” Mapani said.

He further said the UPND government made sure no one was above the law in their governance and that everyone faced justice regardless of their political affiliation.
