The King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, has granted His pardon to Senegalese supporters convicted of crimes committed during the Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco between December 21, 2025 and January 18, 2026, according to a statement from the Royal Cabinet issued on Saturday 23 May 2026..

This measure comes on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and concerns events that occurred during the competitions that have mobilized several tens of thousands of African fans in different Moroccan cities.

Through this High Decision, His Majesty the King attests to the depth of the strong bonds of friendship, fraternity and cooperation uniting the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal. This Pardon further reflects the enduring cardinal values underpinning the Moroccan identity, foremost among them clemency, benevolence, generosity and the spirit of tolerance.

Senegalese compatriots detained in Morocco following the incidents on the sidelines of the African Cup of Nations are free. They will soon find theirs, by the Royal Grace that His Majesty King Mohammed VI has kindly granted them on the occasion of Eid al-Kebir.

The Senegalese head of state addressed to the Moroccan Sovereign his most sincere thanks and stressed that Senegal and Morocco cultivate an ancient fraternity that this gesture, once again, comes to honor, before wishing Aïd Mubarak to His Majesty and all the Moroccan people.
