National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate, Brian Mundubile, has rejected the Electoral Commission of Zambia’s declaration of President Hakainde Hichilema as winner of the 2026 presidential election, alleging irregularities in the electoral process and demanding authorities disclose the whereabouts of former Lunte lawmaker, Mutotwe Kafwaya.
Mundubile said the electoral outcome did not reflect what the party believed happened during the election and that NRPUP would pursue legal avenues to challenge the results.
“NRPUP has documented irregularities relating to ballot security, transportation and handling of electoral materials, as well as alleged discrepancies between votes recorded at polling stations and figures subsequently announced,” Mundubile said in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the party had gathered evidence and records that would be submitted to the appropriate legal institutions within the prescribed period.
Mundubile said the votes secured by NRPUP demonstrated significant public support for the opposition and vowed to continue representing those who voted for him.
He also rejected allegations linking NRPUP, its campaign or people associated with the party to an alleged insurgency or threat to national security.
Mundubile said his campaign had been based on peace and democratic participation and that NRPUP had never advocated violence or sought political power through force.
He called for an immediate explanation over the detention of his campaign manager, Davies Chisopa.
“If Chisopa is suspected of committing an offence, authorities should produce the evidence and allow the allegations to be tested before a court of law, with his rights protected under Zambian law,” he said.
Mundubile added that he was currently under protection after allegedly receiving threats against his life.

On Kafwaya, Mundubile said he personally witnessed the former lawmaker being shot during an incident and expressed concern over his reported disappearance.
He said Kafwaya’s family had not received an adequate explanation regarding his whereabouts or condition.
Mundubile urged authorities to immediately disclose whether Kafwaya was in state custody and, if so, provide the legal basis for his detention and grant his family and lawyers access to him.
“If Kafwaya is not in state custody, authorities have an obligation to establish his whereabouts and investigate what has happened to him,” he said.
Mundubile said NRPUP would also pursue allegations of electoral manipulation and ballot tampering, including concerns over electoral documentation, G20 papers, ballot transportation and security, as well as discrepancies allegedly identified by party representatives.
He called on regional and international partners, election observers and democratic institutions to remain engaged with developments in Zambia, saying allegations of political violence, detention, intimidation and electoral misconduct should not be disregarded simply because the results had been declared.
Mundubile, however, urged his supporters to remain peaceful and avoid retaliation or provocation while legal processes were pursued.
“There will be no call from me for violence. There will be no call from the NRPUP for retaliation,” he said.
