One dead, as Chipata Mayor, two others survive motor accident

Twenty eight  year-old Chipata  mayor George Mwanza  and two others are nursing injuries in hospital as another dies  in a motor vehicle accident.

Eastern province deputy police commanding officer Lucky Munkhondya said police recorded a road traffic accident on Thursday around 21:00 hours in the muthilizi area along the great east road.

She  said in a statement on Friday  that involved was a motor vehicle belonging to Chipata Municipal Council, a Toyota Hilux registration number FJ 1 which was extensively damaged.It was  being driven from East to West direction by Isaac Mbewe 40 with three other passengers on board.

Munkhondya said the accident happened when the driver lost control of the motor vehicle due to excessive speed and in the process he went to hit the pavement and overturned.
“Chipata Mayor and two others are nursing injuries while one person has died after they were involved in an accident, “she said.Munkhondya said Mbewe sustained chest pains and a painful left hand while three other passengers namely Mwanza who is Chipata mayor sustained chest pains and a cut on the head, while Paul Malachi 38 sustained a painful heart and left shoulder.

Laison Mwale 37  had internal injuries and died around 23:00 hours.

 All the three accident victims were admitted to Kalindawalo general hospital and the body of Mwale was deposited in the mortuary.
