Patriotic Front (PF) member Chishimba Kambwili, who was reported to have been arrested while in prison on October 22, 2025, has been released on bond after facing an immigration-related charge.
Kambwili was due for release today after completing a five-month sentence for hate speech but remained in custody following his arrest by the Immigration Department.
His lawyer, Kennedy Mambwe, confirmed that the arrest arose from allegations that Kambwili failed to appear before an immigration officer when leaving Zambia in 2024.
Government records indicate that Kambwili had been granted clearance for medical evacuation to South Africa that year but instead travelled to Zimbabwe without proper authorisation.
According to official reports, on January 30, 2024, an unidentified Zimbabwean man presented Kambwili’s passport to immigration officers at the Chirundu border post, prompting suspicions about his movements.
Later that year, Home Affairs Minister, Jack Mwiimbu, told reporters that Kambwili had violated Section 16(1) of the Immigration and Deportation Act No. 18 of 2010, which required all persons leaving Zambia to appear before an immigration officer for exit formalities.
Before his latest arrest, Kambwili had been serving a five-month sentence for making tribal remarks and was expected to walk free on October 23, 2025.
