Zambian police have launched a manhunt for three men who allegedly gang-raped a 26-year-old woman during a robbery in Mansa District of Luapula Province, police said.
Mansa Central Police Station received a report of aggravated robbery and rape from Aubrey Kasongo, 26, of Kasheshe Village in Chief Kalasalukangaba’s area.
Police said the incident occurred on September 27 at about 2200 hours when three unidentified men, armed with sharp instruments and a broken bottle, forcibly entered the victim’s home while Kasongo and his 26-year-old girlfriend were asleep.
Luapula Province Police Commanding Officer, Lucky Munkhondya, said in a statement on Monday that the assailants threatened Kasongo, sexually assaulted and gang-raped his girlfriend before stealing cash and mobile phones.

The suspects allegedly stole K200 in cash, two Itel mobile phones valued at K500 and a Tecno smartphone valued at K2,700, bringing the total value of the stolen property to K3,400.
“Police visited the scene and established that entry was gained through the back door after the locking mechanism was damaged,” Munkhondya said.
She said a medical report was issued to the victim of the sexual assault for medical examination.
“No arrest has been made so far but,Investigations have been instituted and efforts are equally being made to bring the culprits to book,” Munkhondya said.
