Zambia’s Ambassador to Japan, Tobias Mulimbika, has called on Japanese investors to participate in the government’s Grow Zambia Agenda by investing in key priority sectors, particularly those linked to the global green transition.
The Grow Zambia Agenda is the government’s drive to accelerate economic growth, increase productivity, attract investment and create jobs by unlocking opportunities across key sectors of the economy.
Mulimbika made the remarks in Tokyo during Tourism EXPO Japan (TEJ) 2026, where Zambia is showcasing its tourism attractions, investment opportunities and cultural heritage.
This is according to a statement issued in Tokyo by Faith Chilube, First Secretary for Press and Public Relations at the Zambian Embassy in Japan.
He said Zambia’s economy was on a positive trajectory, with investment opportunities in sectors including mining, agriculture, tourism and energy.
“The country’s strengthened economic position and improved investor confidence make Zambia an increasingly attractive destination for Japanese investment,” Mulimbika stated.
The ambassador said progress in restructuring Zambia’s debt had created greater fiscal space for the government to mobilise resources towards social and economic development, while strengthening investor confidence.
“Government has worked very hard to ensure that the debt is restructured, and now it is almost completely restructured. That gives us space to mobilise resources to invest in social sectors, but also gives confidence to investors coming to invest in Zambia that they are entering an environment where they can put in their money and be assured of having a return on their money,” he said.
Mulimbika said Japanese technology could help Zambia increase agricultural production in drought-, heat- and flood-prone conditions worsened by climate change.

He said the current environment presented opportunities for Japanese companies, citing Zambia’s mineral wealth, agricultural potential and investment opportunities arising from the global transition towards greener economies.
He also highlighted Zambia’s record of peace and political transitions as features of the country’s investment environment, citing the August 13, 2026 general election in which President Hakainde Hichilema was re-elected.
Meanwhile, Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA) Chief Marketing Officer Amanda Mwendaweli Chipungu said Japan was an important and emerging market for Zambia’s tourism sector.
“Zambia’s participation at Tourism EXPO Japan is strategically aimed at increasing awareness of the country and stimulating travel from Japan, while creating opportunities for the private sector to generate travel leads and secure bookings,” she said.
Chipungu said Zambia’s participation also highlighted investment opportunities in the tourism sector, particularly at attractions requiring accommodation, infrastructure and other amenities.
She said tourism had strong linkages with agriculture, transport, health and entertainment, creating opportunities for investment across related sectors.
