The Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) have officially endorsed Zambia’s Samuel Munzele Maimbo for the presidency of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Maimbo’s candidacy was formally introduced on Saturday in Addis Ababa during a press briefing co-hosted by Zambia, Zimbabwean President and SADC Chairperson, Emmerson Mnangagwa, and Burundian President and COMESA Chairperson, Évariste Ndayishimiye.
President Hakainde Hichilema, in a statement on his official Facebook page, expressed gratitude to Mnangagwa and Ndayishimiye for their support, emphasizing that Maimbo’s endorsement reflected a shared vision for strong leadership at Africa’s premier financial institution.

He added that Maimbo’s tenure as Chief of Staff to successive World Bank presidents had equipped him with the strategic leadership needed to drive AfDB’s sustainable development and financial innovation agenda.
