The Tonse Alliance has confirmed that the Socialist Party (SP), led by Dr. Fred M’membe, has officially applied to join the opposition coalition.

Alliance Spokesperson, Sean Tembo, said discussions were underway with the SP leadership to agree on specific terms and conditions for the potential partnership.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday, Tembo said the public would be informed once negotiations were concluded and a date would be announced for the official welcome of the Socialist Party to the Alliance.

“The Tonse Alliance would like to further take this opportunity to reach out to other political parties to come and join us,” Tembo said.

He maintained that the Alliance remained the most credible platform to remove the current regime from power and pledged to deliver a competent and inclusive government focused on improving the lives of ordinary Zambians.

“No amount of personal ego from any individual political leader should hinder the change that Zambians need and deserve next year,” Tembo added.

He also praised Dr. M’membe for his “patriotism and humility” in seeking to join forces with the Alliance to secure victory in the 2026 general elections.

Media reports earlier this week indicated that the Socialist Party had submitted an application to join the Tonse Alliance, which is led by former President Edgar Lungu.
