Zambia will participate in the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to demonstrate its commitment to multilateral cooperation, economic diplomacy and the promotion of peace, security and democracy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has said.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe, has arrived in Antigua and Barbuda to represent President Hakainde Hichilema at the meeting.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday, Ministry Principal Public Relations Officer Eva Chanda said the meeting would be held from November 1 to 4, 2026, under the theme “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth”.

Chanda said the meeting would provide a platform for Commonwealth leaders to deliberate on shared global challenges and explore practical approaches to strengthening partnerships, trade, investment and development financing.

She said it would also present a strategic opportunity for Zambia to advance the Government’s Grow Zambia Agenda by positioning the country as an attractive investment destination, promoting investment-ready projects, expanding access to international markets and strengthening partnerships with member states, development finance institutions and the global business community.

“Zambia will also have an opportunity to contribute Africa’s perspectives to discussions on global economic governance, climate financing, international trade, peace and security, democratic governance and inclusive development,” Chanda said.

In addition to Heads of Government engagements, Haimbe will participate in key ministerial-level meetings, including the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting and the 75th Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG), where Zambia serves as Vice-Chair.

The Zambian delegation will also participate in the Commonwealth Business Forum and other thematic forums and high-level side events focusing on youth empowerment, gender equality, health, climate action and people-centred development.

“Zambia will use the margins of CHOGM 2026 to undertake bilateral engagements with fellow Commonwealth member states and international partners to strengthen diplomatic relations, promote trade and investment, and explore new areas of cooperation,” Chanda said.

She said the engagements would also support Zambia’s bid to re-host the Commonwealth Youth Centre, reaffirming the country’s commitment to youth development and international cooperation.

Chanda said Zambia’s participation reflected its determination to leverage multilateral diplomacy to advance national development priorities, contribute to Africa’s collective interests and support the pursuit of a more peaceful, inclusive and prosperous global community.
