Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga has said Chipolopolo are on course for qualification for the 2023 Ivory Coast Africa Cup of Nations to be played in 2024.

Kamanga said the immediate task in the new year would be to focus on the March back-to-back qualifiers against Lesotho.

“ With the new coach Avram Grant in place, we have no doubt that the team will be entering the new year with renewed vigour,” he said in a weekly posting on his facebook page on Monday.

Kamanga said FAZ would accord the team quality preparations for the march engagements.

“ We are mindful of the limited time within which we can have full international friendly matches, but we will liaise with the technical bench to ensure that the team is well prepared,” he said.

Kamanga said FAZ will do the same for the Copper Queens as they prepare for the World Cup.

With the FIFA window coming up next month, he said the World Cup bound Copper Queens would be in action with several prospective opponents already on the table.

Kamanga said FAZ’s plan was to host an international friendly on home soil for the Copper Queens as part of staging a befitting send-off before the ever-supportive home fans.

“We have several top teams looking to test themselves against the Copper Queens. With all our top players now available for selection for national duty, we have no doubt that we will have a stronger team,” he said.

On a sad note ,he announced the demise of seasoned administrator Ernest Mate who served as FAZ General Secretary.

“We are deeply saddened by his death especially at a time when we are looking to tap in every football resource, we can lay our hands on,” said Kamanga.
