MuFinance and National Planning Minister, Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, has emphasized that future cooperation between Zambia and its international partners should focus on investment and trade, rather than aid and handouts.
Speaking at the residence of Zambia’s Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Chibamba Kanyama, to mark the conclusion of the 2025 World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spring Meetings, Musokotwane described the meetings as a success.
He highlighted Washington’s importance as a key station for attracting investment to Zambia.
“I am pleased to hear that the Mission here in DC is planning to hold Investment Missions.
The Spring Meetings have been successfully held with engagements from the World Bank, IMF, and other stakeholders,” Dr. Musokotwane stated.
“Most of the discussions focused on reviewing the work that Zambia is doing, with the country being singled out as a success story.
Musokotwane was accompanied by Secretary to the Treasury Felix Nkulukusa, Bank of Zambia Governor Dr. Denny Kalyalya, and Zambia Revenue Authority Commissioner General Dingani Banda.
Zambia also participated in the Global Parliamentary Forum, held alongside the Spring Meetings.
Members of Parliament Sibongile Mwamba (Kasama Central) and Sibeso Sefulo (Mwandi Constituency) represented Zambia in the parliamentary forum, with Mwamba stressing the importance of food security and Sefulo emphasizing youth employment, particularly in the mining sector, which remains the backbone of Zambia’s economy.
Musokotwane’s remarks come as Zambia continues to focus on economic growth through trade, investment, and partnerships with global institutions.
Meanwhile, Zambia’s endorsed candidate for the presidency of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Samuel Munzele Maimbo, expressed gratitude to the Government for its support in his campaign
He also thanked both the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) for backing his candidacy.
During the engagements, Mwamba commended Zambia’s resilience amid domestic challenges and stressed the importance of prioritizing food security.
Sefulo underscored the urgent need to tackle youth unemployment, particularly in the mining sector, which she described as the backbone of Zambia’s economy.
The 2025 Spring Meetings provided an important platform for Zambia to showcase its economic progress and forge stronger global partnerships.
