The Ministry of Agriculture has urged farmers to closely monitor official weather forecasts and agricultural advisories as they prepare for the 2026/2027 farming season.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ministry Principal Public Relations Officer, Balewa Zyuulu, said timely access to weather and agricultural information would be important in helping farmers make appropriate decisions on the selection, timing and use of inputs.
He urged farmers to regularly follow weather forecasts and other advisories issued by the Ministry through its various communication channels, particularly in view of anticipated weather challenges during the coming farming season.
“Farmers should also consult agricultural extension officers in their respective areas for technical guidance on recommended farming practices,” Zyuulu said.

The advice comes as the Ministry continues implementing the 2026/2027 Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) under the E-Voucher system.
The Ministry has encouraged farmers who have received their codes to redeem their inputs in good time while taking into account prevailing and expected weather conditions.
Zyuulu said access to inputs alone would not be sufficient if farmers did not use them appropriately or adjust their farming practices to prevailing conditions.
He also urged accredited agro-dealers to maintain adequate stocks of approved and appropriate agricultural inputs in anticipation of the 2026/2027 farming season.
Farmers have further been advised to keep their FISP redemption codes secure and not share them with other people.
The Ministry said farmers should personally participate in the redemption process and ensure that all transactions involving their allocations are authorised by them.
Zyuulu said the Ministry would continue monitoring the FISP implementation and take action against agro-dealers who prevent eligible farmers from accessing their inputs or engage in practices that undermine the programme.
