Patrick Chanda, aged 30, has reportedly been robbed of his motorbike valued at K25,000 during an ambush by suspected robbers in Kasama on Friday.

An aggravated robbery incident was reported in Kasama District, occurring on 17th April 2026 at approximately 20:30 hours in the Central Town area.

The victim reported that he was attacked by two unknown individuals who stole his unregistered black Kinglion motorcycle, valued at K25,000.

Police said Chanda sustained a swollen head during the attack.

On the stated date and time, Chanda of Simbeye Village was heading towards Kasama Town to refuel his motorcycle, Northern Province Police Commanding Officer Simunji Mulonda said in a statement on Saturday.

Mulonda said upon reaching the Lions Club area, Chanda picked up two passengers who requested to be taken to Central Town.

While en route, near Mapalo Lodge, the passengers instructed him to stop.

“Immediately after stopping, he was struck on the head with an unknown object and lost consciousness,” Mulonda said.

He said security guards patrolling near the Lions Club later heard him calling for help and rushed him to Kasama General Hospital, where he was attended to and found with a swollen head.

The matter was subsequently reported to police, and a medical report was issued.

Mulonda said the victim remains admitted to Kasama General Hospital, and no arrests had been made, while the stolen motorcycle has not yet been recovered.

He urged motorcycle owners to register their bikes with the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) after paying the required duty to the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

“Registration significantly improves the chances of recovery in cases of theft,” he said.

He further urged motorcycle operators to avoid operating at night for their safety, noting that some riders continue to disregard this guidance.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
