Police probe viral s*x video involving Zambian athlete, Njobvu, as public outcry grows

The Zambia Police Service has launched investigations into a viral video showing two women engaged in what authorities have described as “immoral and indecent conduct,” sparking a wave of public backlash and renewed debate over online content regulation.

The video, which has circulated widely on social media over the past 48 hours, has drawn condemnation from members of the public, religious bodies, and civil society groups who say it undermines Zambia’s moral and cultural values.

In an official statement issued on Sunday, Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, confirmed that law enforcement officers are actively investigating the origin, content, and distribution of the video.

He warned that anyone found in possession of or distributing the material could face prosecution under Section 177 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia, which prohibits the production and circulation of obscene content.

“We urge the general public to refrain from circulating or downloading such material. Any person found in breach of the law will be dealt with accordingly,” Hamoonga stated.

He further emphasized that the conduct depicted in the video not only contravenes national laws but also offends public morality and decency.

“The Zambia Police remains committed to upholding public morality, enforcing the law, and protecting the dignity of all individuals,” he said.

The video at the centre of the investigation is believed to involve Rhoda Njobvu, a track and field athlete and a serving sergeant in the Zambia National Service (ZNS), allegedly engaging in sexual activity with a female officer from the Zambia Correctional Service. The footage was leaked online, sparking nationwide discussions around morality, privacy, and institutional image.

In response, Zambia Athletics (ZA) has constituted a three-member investigative committee to verify the authenticity of the video and assess the circumstances surrounding its release.

ZA President Bernard Bwalya, in a statement issued on Sunday, urged the public to refrain from making inflammatory or speculative remarks while the inquiry is underway.

“As an institution founded on the principles of professionalism, discipline, and national pride, we have launched an internal process to verify the facts and engage the relevant parties involved,” Bwalya said.

He added that the association had taken note of the viral content but asked for patience as investigations proceed.
