The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has announced that it will hand over 100 ambulances to various local authorities across the country in the second week of August 2025.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka on Wednesday, Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Nicholas Phiri, said the ambulances were procured through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and are currently arriving via different ports.
Phiri disclosed that 76 ambulances were already in the ministry’s custody, while 12 have docked in Dar es Salaam and another 12 are expected to arrive in Beira within five days.
A further 18 ambulances are scheduled to dock in Durban, South Africa, on August 8.

“We are finalising registration and insurance modalities to ensure the vehicles are ready for deployment immediately after the handover,” he said.
Meanwhile, Phiri expressed concern over the slow utilisation of CDF resources in Lusaka Province, which continues to trail other regions in implementing projects.
He revealed that, as of June 30, 2025, local authorities had spent over K1.1 billion of the total K2.2 billion allocated under the CDF for the year.
The distribution of the ambulances is expected to significantly improve emergency medical response and enhance healthcare service delivery at the community level.
