After a three-year hiatus from releasing music, Mutale Kani, popularly known as Al Kan-I, has made a comeback with a two-track EP titled, ‘Lion of Judah.’
The project, named after the first track on the EP, features Lion of Judah and Mulungu Wanga, both produced by Woskii and recorded at P-Storm Entertainment Studios in Lusaka.
The two songs mark a departure from the rapper’s earlier works, embracing heavy spiritual themes.
The title track carries a bold message of being untouchable when backed by the Lion of Judah, a Biblical reference to Jesus Christ.

On Mulungu Wanga, Al Kan-I delivers a heartfelt tribute to his late mother, reflecting on the rollercoaster of grief he endured. Featuring emotive vocals from King Kai, the track blends raw vulnerability with total surrender to God, expressing faith in divine strength during moments of despair.
Kani, who is also a journalist, described the project as deeply fulfilling and hinted that more music is on the way.
“It felt great to work on this project. Obviously, I explored themes that are not so similar to music I have worked on in the past, but hip-hop being the expressive art form that it is, gave me the opportunity to speak my mind and heart of how I was feeling at the time I recorded the album,” he said.
The independently released EP is now available on major streaming platforms.
