Former Katuba Member of Parliament, Bampi Kapalasa, has been hauled before the Lusaka High Court by four Chinese-owned companies and their shareholder in a defamation suit arising from a bitter financial dispute.

The plaintiffs Mr. Mingqing Liu, Ganzhou Investments Limited, Huake Mining Zambia Company Limited, Neptune Iron Ore Mining Limited, and Lintai Mining Company Limited, claim Kapalasa defamed them after he alleged in local media that the firms owed him $1.8 million in unpaid consultancy and advisory fees.

In their statement of claim, the companies argue that Kapalasa’s remarks, which were published in News Diggers! on April 29, 2025, painted them as dishonest entities that fail to honor contractual obligations and operate under political influence.

The article was subsequently shared across social media platforms , including Facebook, LinkedIn, and various blogs, amplifying the allegations.

The plaintiffs contend that the publication has injured their business reputation, exposing them to public ridicule, contempt, and suspicion.

They accused Kapalasa of deliberately making false and malicious claims to damage their standing.

“The words complained of were understood to mean that the plaintiffs’ businesses are dishonest, politically aligned, and evade contractual obligations,” the companies stated in their filing.

They are demanding a retraction of the remarks, a public apology, damages for reputational harm, and costs.

The case arose from an earlier lawsuit filed by Kapalasa himself under cause number 2025/HP/0552, in which he accused the firms of refusing to pay him for consultancy services allegedly rendered between 2023 and 2024.
