Zambian reggae musician, Michael Zulu, popularly known as St Maiko, has been nominated in the Humanitarian category at the 2025 Kwacha Music Awards.
The nomination also recognizes his wife, Sista D, a celebrated humanitarian champion in her own right.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, St Maiko revealed that he will request the withdrawal of his nomination, citing personal relationship values that prioritize cooperation over competition.
“As a couple, our only competition remains over a game of Scrabble,” he quipped.
He also expressed gratitude to the awards organizers, cooperating partners, and fans who have supported him for over three decades.
“Your ‘Minister of Ganja Affairs’ and ‘Highest Commissioner’ to all ‘Free States’ has yet again been nominated… We await official communication from Sun FM. I sincerely thank the award adjudicators for their professionalism and procedural conduct and pray for a successful 2025 Kwacha Awards ceremony,” St Maiko said.
The move highlights the couple’s unique approach to balancing fame, music, and humanitarian work, putting their relationship values above accolades, while continuing to champion social causes through their music.
