Police arrest suspect in alleged Lusaka abduction, assault case

Police in Lusaka have apprehended a suspect in connection with a case of abduction and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The victim, Joe Nyondo, 34, of Lusaka, was allegedly abducted and beaten by unknown individuals driving a grey Toyota Quantum, registration number ADF 6524.

In a statement issued on Monday, Police Assistant Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Chilabi, said the incident occurred on September 25, 2025, around 13:00 hours at Old Leopards Hill Cemetery.

Preliminary investigations revealed that while a burial for a Kaunda Square resident was ongoing, a Toyota Quantum carrying about 12 to 16 occupants, some armed with offensive weapons, stormed the site, caused panic among mourners, and abducted the victim.

Police later arrested the driver of the Toyota Quantum, identified as Malaki Ngeke, 33, of Matero, at Heroes Stadium, where the victim had been taken.

“The victim was issued with a medical report at Mandevu Police Post and subsequently taken to Chipata Level One Hospital for treatment,” Chilabi said.

He added that the victim sustained injuries during the incident and that the vehicle involved has since been recovered.

Chilabi confirmed that the suspect remained in custody, while a manhunt for the accomplices, who are still at large, continues.

“The Zambia Police Service strongly warns all those involved that the law will catch up with them,” he said, assuring the public that police are committed to bringing all perpetrators to justice and ensuring community safety.
