President Hakainde Hichilema says the high-profile visits by United Nations (UN) Tourism Secretary-General Elect Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais and a business delegation from China demonstrate growing international confidence in Zambia’s economy.

Speaking about the UN Tourism chief’s visit, Hichilema said tourism remained one of Zambia’s key economic sectors, with vast potential to drive inclusive growth, job creation, and rural development.

“Her visit presents an opportunity to explore and strengthen strategic collaboration between Zambia and UN Tourism, particularly in the areas of skills training, destination marketing, and tourism infrastructure development,” he said in a post on his official Facebook page on Wednesday.

“We look forward to working closely with UN Tourism to enhance Zambia’s competitiveness as a sustainable tourism destination.”

The Head of State added that by investing in people, promoting the country’s natural and cultural assets, and improving access and infrastructure, Zambia could unlock the full potential of its tourism sector for national and regional benefit.

Later, at State House, President Hichilema held talks with Mo Dingge, Chairman of the China National Chemical Group, and his delegation.

He underscored Zambia’s commitment to its strong and growing partnership with China, which has now been elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic and Cooperative Partnership.

“We welcome China Chemical Group’s planned investments through Sino Great in Chilanga District, focused on phosphate, ammonium phosphate, phosphoric acid, gypsum, and related industrial and agricultural chemicals,” Hichilema said.

He noted that such investments would create jobs, boost local enterprise, and contribute to skills development in the country.
