Group urges stakeholders to back bill 7 for Zambia’s development

Governance and Development Advocates Zambia (GODAZA) has urged stakeholders to rise above partisan interests and support Bill 7, describing it as a key instrument to help President Hakainde Hichilema unlock further development for the country.

Recently, President Hichilema appointed a 25-member technical committee to draft a new Constitution Amendment Bill to be presented to Parliament, following the earlier attempt to push for Bill 7, which faced backlash and was later withdrawn.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, GODAZA Executive Director, Elias Mulenga, said the proposed Bill contained vital provisions that would advance Zambia’s development agenda.

Mulenga stated that the country was experiencing steady economic growth and recovery, with visible benefits reaching ordinary citizens.

“This progress reflects the sound policies being implemented by the New Dawn administration, and backing Bill 7 is essential to unlocking additional funding and driving development across the nation,” he said.

He added that the Bill had the potential to accelerate progress, improve infrastructure, and raise the quality of life for all Zambians.

“Passing Bill 7 would attract greater investment, create employment, and improve access to vital services such as healthcare and education,” Mulenga noted.

He further said the legislation would enhance infrastructure development in areas such as roads, energy, and water supply — stimulating economic growth and reducing poverty.

Mulenga called on citizens, civil society organisations, the Church, and government bodies to unite in support of Bill 7 and champion Zambia’s long-term development goals.
