Police in Mansa, Luapula Province, are pursuing a 40-year-old man identified as Paul Chama, who has gone into hiding after allegedly defiling and impregnating his 15-year-old daughter.

According to police, Mary Chileshe, aged 35, of Village Chungu in Mansa District, reported that her daughter, aged 15, was defiled by her biological father. The victim is said to be two months pregnant.

The incident occurred between August and October 2025 at Village Chungu, Chief Kalasa area, in Mansa District.

Luapula Province Police Commanding Officer, Mwala Yuyi, said in a statement issued on Friday that in August 2025, the victim’s mother went to the family’s farm, leaving her husband, Chama, at home with their two biological children — a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy.

“When she returned after two weeks, she discovered that her children, who previously shared the same bedroom, were now sleeping in separate rooms. She did not inquire about the reason for this change,” Yuyi said.

He added that in October 2025, the mother again went to the farm and returned after a week, only to notice a sudden change in her daughter’s behaviour.

“The girl became lazy and selective with food. On October 22, 2025, at about 06:00 hours, the mother sat her daughter down and inquired when she last had her menstrual period,” Yuyi narrated.

The girl reportedly revealed that she had not menstruated for the past two months.

“Upon physically checking her, the mother discovered that the daughter was pregnant,” Yuyi said.

When asked who was responsible, the victim disclosed that she had sexual intercourse with her biological father about three times during the period her mother was away at the farm.

The suspect allegedly promised the girl that she would inherit all his assets after his death.

Yuyi said the mother confronted her husband, who admitted to committing the offence but remained silent thereafter.

“On October 2025, the reporter, together with her family, decided to report the matter to the Police for further investigations and medical attention,” Yuyi said.

He added that a medical report was issued, and the victim has since been taken to a safety house for protection.

Yuyi disclosed that the suspect is currently on the run, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend him.
