Afrobeats superstar, Davido’s recent meeting with French President, Emmanuel Macron, has sparked mixed reactions online — drawing both praise and criticism from fans across Nigeria.
The “Unavailable” hitmaker, born David Adeleke, shared photos from the Élysée Palace on October 23, describing the meeting as “an honor” to share “visions for a better world” with the French leader.
While many hailed the encounter as a proud moment for African entertainment, others questioned its motive and symbolism, according to Pulse Nigeria.
On X (formerly Twitter), critics were quick to respond. One user wrote: “Vision wey u no see share give Tinubu.” Another added: “You no share give Tinubu make country better, na France president you dey give idea.”
Some also questioned the optics of the visit, with one post stating: “This is not a flex. France is still practicing modern-day colonization on some African countries.”
Davido’s close associate Pascal ‘Cubana Chief Priest’ Okechukwu also drew attention online, with one user joking: “Chief Priest na Davido handbag, bro just traveling the world meeting superstars and presidents.”
Despite the backlash, Davido’s supporters defended him, saying his growing international presence promotes Nigeria’s creative industry.
One fan wrote: “Davido keeps opening doors for African artistes — that’s leadership.”
The meeting comes just weeks after Davido’s appointment as Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, positioning him further in the public spotlight beyond music.
