PF halts illegal campaigns, endorsements pending central committee guidance

The Patriotic Front (PF) has directed all its party structures to immediately halt what it has described as illegal campaigns and endorsements until the Central Committee issues official guidance and formally opens the campaign period.

PF Chairperson for Information and Publicity, Emmanuel Mwamba, said the Central Committee had observed with serious concern a growing trend of public statements and activities amounting to unsanctioned presidential campaigns and endorsements within the party.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, Mwamba, who is also a Member of the Central Committee, said such actions were unlawful and risked portraying the party as chaotic and disorganised.

“These acts amount to lawlessness and cause reputational damage as they display a party perceived to be in disarray and chaos,” Mwamba said.

He emphasised that the PF remained a structured organisation governed by rules, regulations, and discipline.

“It is for this reason that we have fought relentlessly in the courts of law to reject the fierce state attempts to steal and destroy the party. Our Party Constitution remains our guiding light in dealing with both internal and external challenges,” he added.

Mwamba noted that following the passing of Zambia’s Sixth President and PF Party President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, the party had embarked on a reorganisation process in line with its Constitution.

He said during the last Central Committee meeting held on October 6, 2025, chaired by Acting Party President Given Lubinda, several resolutions were made, including the establishment of a committee to urgently prepare for the party’s General Conference.

The committee, he said, was tasked to set the date, formulate campaign guidelines, and develop rules of engagement — particularly under the current circumstances where the late President Lungu had not yet been laid to rest.

“It was also resolved that the party would consult and seek guidance from the former First Family as it plans the way forward,” Mwamba said.

He explained that the committee, chaired by Lupososhi Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Mpankata, was further tasked with preparing logistics, structures, and modalities for the General Conference, as well as reviewing a proposal to open presidential campaigns beyond the nine aspirants who paid the K200,000 nomination fee.

“It has therefore become imperative that senior leaders such as Members of the Central Committee, Members of Parliament, and other party leaders support the work of the Central Committee and the leadership of Acting President Given Lubinda and Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda,” Mwamba urged.

He said this support was vital to promote unity, a sense of common purpose, and stability during a sensitive period for the PF following Lungu’s death.

Mwamba further announced that an urgent Central Committee meeting had been convened for Sunday, November 2, 2025, to discuss internal matters and roll out the party’s voter registration and mobilisation strategy.

“Leaders, structures, and followers are advised to adhere to the provided guidelines and refrain from illegal activities such as endorsements. Failure to comply amounts to lawlessness, anarchy, and indiscipline,” Mwamba warned.

He encouraged lower party structures to actively participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise as they await official direction from the top leadership.
