The Chinese government has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Zambian authorities to promote regional security and address emerging security threats.

Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chinese Embassy in Zambia, Wang Sheng, gave the assurance during a courtesy call on Inspector-General of Police, Graphel Musamba, on Thursday.

Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday that the courtesy call aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation between the two countries.

Hamoonga said the meeting provided an opportunity to explore potential areas of collaboration, particularly in strengthening security cooperation and combating transnational crime.

“The visit highlights the long-standing friendship and partnership between China and Zambia, which have enjoyed nearly six decades of diplomatic relations,” he said.

He noted that the Zambia Police Service welcomed the initiative, emphasizing the importance of such engagements in reinforcing law enforcement collaboration and promoting peace and stability.

Hamoonga added that the partnership was expected to further deepen bilateral ties, focusing on mutual benefit and shared development.

“In recent years, China has become one of Zambia’s key strategic partners, with major investments in infrastructure, agriculture, mining, and other sectors,” he said.

He explained that the Zambia–China partnership continues to thrive under the Comprehensive Strategic and Cooperative Partnership framework, guided by principles of mutual respect, equality, and common development.

Hamoonga said the visit formed part of China’s broader efforts to deepen engagement with Zambia and reaffirm its commitment to the country’s socio-economic development and security.

“Through ongoing collaboration, both nations aim to address regional challenges and promote lasting peace and stability across the region,” he said.
