Lubinda vows Kabwe attack won’t deter his bid for Patriotic Front presidential ticket

Patriotic Front (PF) acting president, Given Lubinda, has vowed that a violent attack he reportedly suffered in Kabwe will not deter him from pursuing his political ambitions, insisting he remains committed to seeking the country’s leadership.

Lubinda condemned what he called a planned and brutal assault by suspected UPND cadres while he was addressing PF officials but said the incident would not shake his resolve or push him out of the PF presidential race.

In an interview with journalists, he said he had experienced far worse in his political career and had long accepted the risks that come with public service.

He recalled past ordeals, including two abductions earlier in his life—one in which his vehicle was stolen and never recovered, and another where he was tied up and left in a maize field.

“I’ve gone through hell. This cannot deter me from offering myself to public service. If people think this will make me fall out of the race, they have picked the wrong person,” he said.

Lubinda added that any decision to step aside would come from his own choice, not as a result of intimidation or violence. He stressed that his determination remained unshaken as he mobilises ahead of the PF convention next week.

He acknowledged that he lacked the financial resources some of his opponents had but said party members understood that his funds had been channelled into party activities.

“The PF will elect me on the basis of what I have done and continue to do,” he said.

Lubinda added that he had toured several provinces—including Southern, Western, North-Western and Copperbelt—and plans to visit the remaining regions as part of his campaign.
