Police in Kasama have confirmed a road traffic accident that left three passengers with minor injuries on December 9, 2025.
According to the Zambia Police Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Chilabi, said the incident occurred around 09:00 hours in the Lwabwe area, approximately 25 kilometres south of Kasama Town along the Mpika–Kasama Road.
Chilabi said the accident involved a Toyota Land Cruiser, registration number BAB 3022, driven from Mpika to Kasama by Mr. Bernard Kabemba, 64, of Chongwe Township in Lusaka, who escaped unhurt.
He said three passengers on board sustained slight injuries: Mr. Makebi Zulu, 43, of Foxdale Township; Mr. Chanda Kabwe, 45, of New Kasama; and former Mines Minister Mr. Richard Musukwa, 55, of Lusaka.
Preliminary investigations indicate that excessive speed caused the driver to lose control, resulting in the vehicle veering off the road and overturning.
“All casualties were attended to at Kasama General Hospital and have since been discharged,” Chilabi said.
Meanwhile, Zulu posted on his official Facebook page: “We are now leaving the hospital to get back to Lusaka. I wish to thank the hospital management, the PF district and Provincial officials and members who came to visit us, you our friends and family for your prayers and well wishes. Grateful also to God our Father for his love and protection. May God bless you all. – MZ”
Police have advised motorists to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits to prevent similar accidents.
