The Alliance Against Corruption (AAC) has expressed deep concern over allegations by Mporokoso Member of Parliament, Brian Mundubile, that a senior United Party for National Development (UPND) official allegedly bribed Members of Parliament and Ministers to vote in favour of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 7.

In a statement issued on Sunday, AAC Executive Director Advocate, Dr Noel Chisebe, said the allegations, if true, amounted to a serious threat to the integrity of the legislative process.

“We strongly condemn any attempts to corrupt the legislative process and undermine the integrity of our institutions. However, we are equally concerned that such serious allegations are being made publicly without any concrete evidence or formal reports to the relevant authorities,” Chisebe said.

Chisebe urged Mundubile to immediately report the allegations to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and other relevant law enforcement agencies.

“It is unacceptable for leaders to make public statements about corruption without taking concrete steps to address the issue,” he said.

He further called on Mundubile to provide evidence to support his claims and to cooperate fully with any investigations that may be instituted.

“We also urge the ACC to take swift action to investigate these allegations and bring perpetrators to justice,” Chisebe said.

Chisebe emphasized that the AAC demanded responsibility and accountability from all leaders, regardless of political affiliation.

He warned that the organisation would not tolerate any attempts to undermine the fight against corruption or erode public trust in public institutions.

“We urge citizens to remain vigilant and to report any instances of corruption to the relevant authorities to build a corruption-free Zambia,” Chisebe said.
