A 26-year-old security guard has died following a shooting incident at Jiahang Resources Limited in Chingola.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Mwala Yuyi, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, identifying the deceased as Kennedy Mambwe of Buyantanshi Township.

“The victim succumbed to his injuries on Saturday evening at Kitwe General Hospital. The shooting occurred around 17:00 hours on January 16, 2025, at the company’s premises along the Chingola–Solwezi Road,” Yuyi said.

He named the suspect as Dickson Masumba, aged 34, also a security guard, employed by Greenshield Security Company in Chambishi. Masumba allegedly shot Mambwe, his colleague, before fleeing the scene.

According to police, Mambwe sustained a gunshot wound to the left leg, leading to severe blood loss.

He was first rushed to Nchanga North General Hospital for emergency treatment before being referred to Kitwe General Hospital on Saturday afternoon due to worsening condition. He reportedly underwent medical scans but later died.

The body of the deceased is now in the hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.

Police said Masumba is still at large, and investigations remain ongoing.
