ZRA seizes seven vehicles linked to transit fraud in Kapiri Mposhi, prevent potential revenue loss of K363,000

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) says it has intercepted seven vehicles in Kapiri Mposhi District, Central Province, in a case linked to alleged transit fraud that could have resulted in a potential revenue loss of more than K263,000.

In a statement issued on Sunday, ZRA Corporate Communications Manager, Oliver Nzala, said the intercepted vehicles included a Toyota Vanguard, Mark X, Probox, Wish, Suzuki Splash, and a Mazda CX-5.

“The vehicles were allegedly destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo through Mokambo Border Post using falsified customs clearance documents,” Nzala said.

He said further verification revealed that the customs documents presented by the smugglers did not correspond to the vehicles in question, but instead belonged to a different consignment involving sulphur, bulk containers, and other vehicles.

Nzala added that the smugglers attempted to bypass official ZRA checkpoints by using unauthorised routes in an effort to evade duties and taxes.

He emphasised that the Authority remained vigilant in combating all forms of smuggling to safeguard government revenue.

Nzala further reaffirmed ZRA’s commitment to enforcing compliance and protecting the country’s economic interests.
