President Hakainde Hichilema is expected to commission the Nakonde One Stop Border Post (OSBP) during his scheduled visit to Muchinga Province.
Muchinga Province Minister, Njavwa Simutowe, said the flagship project was expected to enhance regional trade, improve border efficiency and foster economic growth between Zambia and Tanzania.
“The commissioning of this facility marks a significant milestone in the decentralization agenda and trade facilitation efforts by the government,” Simutowe said in a statement on Tuesday.

He added that the Nakonde OSBP was expected to significantly reduce the time and cost of doing business at the key entry point, thereby boosting commerce and strengthening ties between the two countries.
“We are greatly honoured by his decision to commission this project personally, demonstrating his dedication to bringing development closer to the people,” Simutowe said.
According to the President’s itinerary, he is expected to arrive in Nakonde on Thursday, March 19, 2026.
He will then proceed to the border site to officially commission the facility.
“I call upon all residents of Muchinga Province, particularly the people of Nakonde, to come out in large numbers to accord the President a warm and peaceful welcome. Let us maintain the spirit of unity, peace, and development that characterizes our province,” he said.
