Barcelona delivered a devastating second-half performance to rout Newcastle United 7–2 at Camp Nou on Wednesday, sealing an 8–3 aggregate victory to reach the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

After a frantic first half that ended with 18-year-old Lamine Yamal converting a penalty to put Barcelona 3–2 ahead, the hosts overran Newcastle in the second period with four unanswered goals.

In a match reported by ESPN, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski each scored twice, while teenagers Marc Bernal and Fermín López added their names to the scoresheet.

Newcastle’s first-half resistance came through a brace from Anthony Elanga, who struck twice within 13 minutes despite having gone 35 matches without a goal in the Premier League or Champions League this season.

Barcelona’s seven goals equalled their highest tally in a Champions League knockout match, matching their 7–1 win over Bayer Leverkusen in 2011–12. Newcastle’s seven goals conceded also tied the record for the heaviest defeat by an English club in UEFA competitions, matching Tottenham Hotspur’s 7–2 loss to Bayern Munich in 2019.

Barcelona now remain perfect at home in all competitions in 2025–26, winning eight straight matches at Camp Nou and scoring at least three goals in each.

With the aggregate win, Barcelona move into a possible all-LaLiga quarter-final clash, depending on whether Atletico Madrid protect their 5–2 lead over Tottenham in north London.
