The ZESCO Limited has signed a Power Purchase Agreement with DZGM Energy Resources for the development of a 100-megawatt hybrid wind and solar project valued at US$250 million.

The project is expected to take shape within six months.

According to the agreement, the power generated will be dedicated to public health facilities across the Copperbelt, a move authorities say will strengthen energy security for critical services.

Energy Minister Makozo Chikote, who witnessed the signing in Lusaka on Wednesday, said the investment marked a significant step toward diversifying Zambia’s energy mix and reducing reliance on hydropower.

He called for the project’s swift implementation, stressing that increased renewable capacity is essential to improving supply reliability.

DZGM Energy Resources stated that the investment aligned with the Presidential call for stronger private-sector participation in the energy sector and pledged timely delivery in partnership with ZESCO.

Country Director, Sam Nyirenda, said the initiative would introduce wind-power technology in Zambia for the first time, marking a milestone in the country’s transition toward modern renewable energy solutions.
